New Water Tower

Construction of a new 1 million gallon water storage tank and upgrades to the existing booster station is being partially financed by the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF).  The SRF program is administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and receives a portion of its money to fund these types of projects from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  Once complete, this project will improve water quality for area residents and businesses in the Village of Mt. Zion by providing added capacity and increased distribution system pressures. SRF programs operate in each state to provide communities the resources necessary to build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that protects one of our most valuable resources: water.

Ameren Substation Expansion - Woodland Drive

8/28/2017

Ameren's Gas Division will be working in the coming weeks to expand the gas substation on Woodland Drive near Goodwin Park.  Woodland Drive will remain open, but traffic may be congested or lane usage may be limited during the project.  The project may also block the Mt. Zion Trail from time to time.  Please plan for delays when traveling on Woodland Drive near Goodwin Park until the project is complete.

Sales Tax Change Reminder

A reminder that effective July 1, 2017, sales tax rates in Macon County will increase by .25% due to the voter approved increase to the Macon County Public Safety Tax. The sales tax rate for Mt. Zion will be 7.75% effective July 1st. For questions regarding rates outside of Mt. Zion, please contact the Illinois Department of Revenue at 1-800-732-8866.

Press Release - May 16, 2017

Mt. Zion, IL - In order to make it a safer intersection, the Village of Mt. Zion will be installing additional stop signs on South Henderson at the intersection of South Henderson and Fletcher Park Blvd. The stop signs will be installed on May 24th. Please use extreme caution while drivers are becoming acquainted with the new signs. Please observe the signs by coming to a full stop before proceeding in a safe manner.

What is that green marking in my yard?

Mt. Zion Public Works employees will be marking the Village's sanitary sewer system including manholes and some piping with green paint or green flags.  The Village is locating the sanitary sewer system for GIS mapping and is NOT going to perform any work in your yard other than marking the system. If you have any questions, please contact the Administrative Office at 864-5424.

Splash Pad Voting Underway

The Village of Mt. Zion Parks & Recreation Commission is asking for your help to determine the final design for the Splash Pad planned for Fletcher Park.  In order to finalize the engineering, a final design must be chosen and you can help by voting with a donation. To vote, following the link below and make a donation for your favorite design: Sports Theme or Nature Theme.  $1.00=1 vote  The design that raises the most money will be the winner and used for the final design. You can also vote at Village Hall with cash or check.  Contact Judy Roessler, Director of Parks & Recreation, regarding any questions.

Local Police Agencies Rolling Out New Electronic Ticket Software

11/2/2016

In a joint effort between the Macon County Circuit Clerk, Decatur Police Department, Macon County Sheriff’s Office, and Mt. Zion Police Department a new software program will be implemented that will allow officers to issue electronic citations and written warnings. On October 28, 2016, the Decatur and Mt. Zion Police Departments began issuing electronic citations. The Macon County Sheriff’s Office will also soon be issuing electronic citations.
